This is an old revision of the document!
C9 is a keypad cursor app that allows for much more functionality and customization than the default cursor.
The default cursor can select, scroll by moving to the screen edges, and when holding down “Enter” it will hold down a press and the D-pad will now allow you to scroll the page or move elements. In scroll mode you lose the ability to move the cursor because of this. The default cursor is also unable to move below the Navigation Bar, even when it is removed via overscan.
C9 separates scrolling by allowing you to use the numpad for gestures such as directional swipes and zoom in/zoom out. The D-pad moves the cursor and you can still enable a setting to scroll the screen at screen edges. It also is able to move below the Navigation Bar area, allowing you to access options inaccessible to the default cursor if overscan was used.
The cursor speed can also be customized with user definable acceleration.
C9 also has a “Grid” mode, that creates a 3×3 grid with each part selected by the numpad. Each selection creates a smaller grid to narrow down a screen press.
As well, the cursor icon can be customized to any icon, even GIF's.
Installing
C9 is not currently available on F-Droid, and is only available via the GitHub repository. You can download C9 by using Obtainium (Available on F-Droid). Obtainium can take the repository link and install the app, as well as check for updates.
If you would prefer to not use Obtainium you can download the latest release of C9 here: https://github.com/austinauyeung/C9/releases
You can install the APK file from your PC by sideloading. See the sideloading apps page.
Usage
It should be noted that the default cursor will always appear in newly installed apps, and will need to be manually turned off with the default keybind in order to disable it in the future. Because of this, it is recommended to not overwrite the default cursor button with Keymapper.
A recommended approach would be to use Keymapper to bind it to the default cursor toggle button “III” like so:
- Bind to key “III”
- Set the key to “Do not remap”
- Set action to “Launch app shortcut”>“Activate Standard Cursor”.
With this setup the default cursor toggle is preserved, and can be used by holding down the key. While allowing you to activate the C9 Cursor with just a tap.
