Third party dialer apps are not recommended as they do not have the basic functionality provided by the stock dialer such as using the numpad, hangup button, or ending the call when closing the phone.

QUIK SMS is an open source texting app with amazing support for usage via the D-Pad.

Fossify Contacts is a simple contacts app that is very navigable via the D-pad. However, if you have debloated the com.android.contacts package, Fossify Contacts will only be able to use “Private” storage which is reserved for it's suite of apps. You may recreate the default contacts storage by restoring the mentioned package¹.
